Review 2004: Uganda National Farmers Federation
One of 5,000 small-scale farmers in the Kitimbwa village of Uganda‘s Kayunga district, David Serumaga grows maize for sale in the capital, Kampala.
Like many in rural areas, David and his wife, Betty,
do not have electricity or a telephone, and the nearest
trading center is five kilometers away. When asked how
they decide which crops to grow, or how to determine
the price of their harvest, they laugh: “We guess.”
For the Uganda National Farmer‘s Federation, field visits
are unfortunately too expensive.
