Review 2004: The GIS Laboratory
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory, which the Sustainable
Land Management (SLM) Program helped establish with
local partners at the University of Asmara, is the only
facility Eritrea that offers systematic training and
education in GIS and Earth Observation Eritrea. The
Laboratory provides capacity building in natural resource
management, socio-economic and infrastructure development,
and supports decision-making for national, regional
and local planning. Examples of its use are shown in
the accompanying images and text.
