Dr. Andrew Bennett is the Former Executive Director
of the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture.
He is President of the Tropical Agricultural Association
(UK) and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Centre
for International Forestry Research, Indonesia.
He was formerly Director: Rural Livelihoods and Environment
for the British Department for International Development
where he was responsible for advice to UK Ministers
on policy
and programmes in the fields of livelihoods, natural
resources, environment, sustainable development and
research.
He has over 35 years experience in international development
and disaster management, having worked in development
programmes in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Pacific
and the Caribbean. He also has extensive experience
of international negotiations on natural resources,
research, environment and development.
He has a Doctorate from the University of Cranfield,
a Masters Degree from Reading University, and a Diploma
in Tropical Agriculture from the University of the West
Indies. He is a member of the Council of the Royal Agricultural
Society of England, a Fellow of the Royal Society of
Arts and a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and
St. George.
