SFSA opens an antenna office in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, USA to increase impact through raising awareness and building research, policy and enterprise alliances with American-based institutions.

SFSA Board meets in India.

February 2007

SFSA publishes ‘The Role of Microfinance In Rural Microenterprise Development’ by Prof. Dr. Hans Dieter Seibel of the University of Cologne. An analysis of a web-based discussion prompted by a SFSA advertisement in a microfinance section of The Economist.

Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, Skoll Foundation and SFSA join Shell Foundation in the launch of the GroFin East Africa Fund branded as ASPIRE, for small and medium enterprise development.

Executive Committee of the Insect Resistance Maize for Africa (IRMA) meets in Nairobi, Kenya.

Gender & Diversity media workshop to support the careers of African women in agricultural science. Participants include the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), CGIAR Secretariat, CGIAR Gender & Diversity Group and SFSA.

CGIAR’s Generation Challenge Program and SFSA agree to co-sponsor the development of a Project Delivery Guide for public sector researchers.

Farmers Information Communication Management (FICOM) programme in Uganda becomes self-sustaining, and the Kayunga District Farmers Association takes over management functions. Creating Prosperity Through Investments in Agriculture: What Investments?’ a presentation by Andrew Bennett, World Agriculture Forum, Saint Louis, Missouri, USA.

The Gates Foundation and SFSA agree to continue to co-sponsor a manager position for the Golden Rice Project at the University of Freiburg, Germany.

Final report, ‘Sharing Science, Building Bridges and Enhancing Impact Public- Private Partnerships in the CGIAR’ is published by the International Food Policy Research Institute. Produced with grants from the Department for International Development in the UK and SFSA.

SFSA offers partial sponsorship of the 9th World Congress on Parasitic Plants.

The Syngenta Foundation India (SFI) Board meets in Mumbai.

September 2007

Symposium ‘New Approaches to Plant Breeding of Orphan Crops in Africa,’ organized by Dr. Zerihun Tadele and Prof. Dr. Cris Kuhlemeier, University of Bern. SFSA is one of the event’s co-sponsors. Scientists from both developed and developing countries discuss plant improvement research for millet, tef and other cereals.

The Centre for Applied Studies in International Negotiations (CASIN) office, Geneva, Switzerland hosts the symposium ‘Investing Private Capital in Emerging and Frontier Market SME’s,’ with SFSA among the session’s lead sponsors.
